DRAWING (Class – 06)

07.09.18

Today’s class was all about Perspective. The first half started off with ma’am explaining what Perspective is (the art of representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other). After this we started with ‘One Point Perspective’ i.e., is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single ‘vanishing point‘ on the horizon line. It is a way of drawing objects upon a flat piece of paper (or other drawing surface) so that they look three-dimensional and realistic. We were instructed to make a one point perspective composition using various shapes. It was my first time with Perspective, I was pretty confused initially but ma’am cleared my confusion and helped me get a hold of the concept. We were given the liberty to shade.

The second half started off with ma’am explaining what ‘Two Point Perspective’ also know as ‘ Linear Perspective’ i.e., in which parallel lines along the width and depth of an object are represented as meeting at two separate points on the horizon that are 90 degrees apart as measured from the common intersection of the lines of projection. We were then instructed to draw a two point perspective composition.

Todays class was a lot of fun and I cannot wait for the next class and learn about the ‘Three Point Perspective’.

IMAGING (Class – 06)

04.09.18

The first half of the class was very insightful and interesting. We learnt :
1. How to format files, save, save as
2. How to change the resolution
3. Working with high resolution images
4. Different types of collages:
*Circular collages
*Vertical collages
*Horizontal collages
*Pictures with shadows
5. Modes of colour:
* CMYK – Meant for high resolution, larger than life printing, digital print
* RGB – Online submissions, web/digital DOC

After getting a little briefing about the above mentioned topics, we tried practising some of them on our own on photoshop.

For the second half our assignment was to make a collage on any topic be it ‘Your hometown’, ‘Emotions’, Bollywood, ‘Favourite TV show’ etc. I chose ‘My Favourite TV show’ i.e., Game of Thrones. As per Mr. Sanjeev’s instructions we were supposed to give our image a shadow for a uplifted look. But first we were to sketch our idea and get it approved by him. Once I got my idea approved I went ahead with the browsing of the images for the collage. Once I started placing my pictures for the collage, it was a lot of fun. The shadow effect was the game changer indeed and leaning how to do it was the pretty fun too. I can’t wait to use it on my other projects.

SPACE & MATERIALITY (Class – 05)

30.08.18

The class started off with a fun exercise, we were shown the abstract works of each other and we were supposed to tell what we think it is. My work was the first one to be hit by various opinions. My original sketch was of an angel but the abstract representation was considered as a cat, a mermaid etc. It was fun to discover the real piece after all the assumptions.
After this fun session we were instructed to convert our hand grip sketches into an abstract form using shapes on a tracing paper. Ma’am selected three sketches from our 10 sketches and we had to convert them. The process of figuring out how to convert the piece into an abstract form was fun, especially figuring out the right shapes for it. After the conversion this is what my sketches looked like:

In the second half we were told to convert these three sketches into models using any medium i.e., clay, foam, paper etc. I decided to explore the medium of clay and after getting the permission I went to the workshop to work on the clay but after a good amount of time, I realised that this medium isn’t for me. So, as a home assignment we were told to make at least two models from home and bring it in the next class. But the good news was that they didn’t have to be perfect, we were supposed to brainstorm and explore the process of abstraction.

DRAWING (Class – 05)

31.08.18

The class started off with ma’am reviewing our blogs. I got a positive response thankfully. In the last class we were told to get organic materials i.e., flowers, leaves etc for todays class. So now we had to sketch these leaves and flowers. The name of the assignment was foliage study. We were told to sit in groups and create our work stations accordingly. We were finally given the liberty to shade, so that was fun. In the first half we sketched various flowers and leaves using shading.

In the second half ma’am introduced us with the cross hatching technique. It was fun learning this new technique. Initially I couldn’t get a hold of it but after a one to one session with Ms. Sonia I could understand the basics pretty well. Now we were told to sketched using the cross hatching technique.

IMAGING (Class – 05)

28.08.18

Today’s class started off with Sir instructing the class about todays class assignments. The first assignment was to explore how to use layers and the pen tool. We were mailed a presentation regarding the Gestalt theory and principles, we were asked to go through it before coming for todays class. The presentation contained a lot of images circulating around the Gestalt theory, the images were created on illustrator. The presentation had an image of whales, we were told to take that image on illustrator and use pen tool and layering.
It was a little tough initially to get the hang of layering but once sir helped us out with it it was fun. He helped us figure out how to use pen tool with proper layering. Here is my assignment, vega (my classmate) and I, we did it on the same image:

hjxuilsxjs

The second assignment was to show the four elects i.e., sky, sea, light and wind on the same image using illustrator. Vega and I again worked together as I didn’t have the software, it was so much fun to work together. Initially I thought I won’t be able to do it but it honestly turned out to be a lot of fun creating this ensemble. The best part for Vega and I was the team work and having more than one idea to achieve the result. The best part of this assignment for me was the fact that by the end of the class I knew how to use pen tool and layering. Brain storming on how to portray the four elects together was so exciting. After a lot of browsing and brainstorming I finally sketched how I wanted to showcase the for elements. After getting the approval Vega and Sir, we finally started executing the plan. we were able to finish the assignment within the given time frame and so honestly I felt pretty reified. Here is our assignment:

Sir even taught us how edit the pixels of a picture and explained the importance of using a picture with high resolution. As a whole, the class was a lot of fun and pretty insightful.

INTEGRATIVE SEMINAR & STUDIO (Class – 05)

27.08.18
The seminar class started off with the discussion about chapter – 3 (Metamorphosis). We discussed the key points from the chapter, everyone gave their opinions and discussed their understandings from the chapter. Some of the key learning from the chapter are:
1. Attention shifted from Gregor to family.
2. Gregor feeling guilty and neglected.
3. Family is taking care of themselves.
4. Keeping the door ajar so that Gregor has some clue about what’s happening outside.
5. After Gregor died, family is relieved
6. Family seeing each other
We also discussed the progress in the emotions of various characters i.e., the sister was annoyed with Gregor, father and mother were finally acknowledging the daughter etc and lastly we discussed the various possibilities of the reason behind the story line.

Post this Ms. Prarthana gave us feedback on our ‘Who am I’ (Draft 1) and our five picture story. Considering it was the Review week she also reviewed our WordPress blogs.

For our Seminar’s Home assignment we were asked to jot down three questions from chapter 3, questioning the story and possibilities etc and lastly write the Draft 2 for Who am I. Here are my three questions;
1. How could the family move on so easily after Gregors sudden death?
2. Why did Gregor had such a vague death?
3. Why did the sister start losing her soft side towards her brother?

Who am I (Draft 2)

 THE WILD SHY

When people ask me to tell something about myself, I often get clueless although I’m the only person I know completely.
I’m a fusion of carefree, sweet and happy go lucky. But people often mistake this carefree nature of mine as being haughty. I love to mind my own business however if someone interferes in my life I can turn into satan in no time. Though I love minding my own business, I’m also somebody who is always ready to help. I don’t hesitate going out of my way to help people if they genuinely need it.
My cheerful and happy go lucky nature has won me several friends. I’m very moody and if you’re my close pal you know that I have some boundaries and I lose my temper the minute someone crosses them.
I’m a turtle, I’m a very shy person at first and just like a turtle when someone I’m not familiar with comes up to me with a motive to talk and be friends or so, I just get into my shell and so they automatically assume that I’m being rude or throwing attitude but the reality is that I’m too shy to make a conversation.
So, this one time I was attending a workshop and this girl comes up to me and starts a conversation. One minute into the conversation and I start toying with my phone. She obviously assumed that I’m not interested and I’m being rude but the truth is I was getting too awkward and shy.
But once you know me and you’re a part of the inner circle, I’m a totally different person, just like a turtle I get out of my shell and walk around being the real me without being shy. I’m like a 24*7 entertainment and I don’t keep shut even for a minute. I love having people around, I’m a people’s person. Not trying to sound like a narcissist but I’m that energy source of my group, if I’m missing, the life of the group is missing.
I’m also quite disciplined. I love keeping my things in place and do not like anybody touching them.
I’m also someone who loves camera. I wanna explore the shoot life and the fashion communication industry. Being able to showcase my thoughts and opinions is my dream. I’ve always been fascinated by YouTube and I really wanna start my own channel.

The studio class started off with us having a peer review. Ms. Riya randomly made pairs and we were supposed to review the ten metaphor models of our partner. I was paired up with Feona, first I reviewed her models. She was such sport to take all my opinions, also she is an amazing sketcher. Once I was done reviewing she started reviewing my models and honestly it was so much fun explaining my models and getting a third person view. She felt like I could improve on my models of journal and energy drink.
Other than this she was really happy with my explanations and models especially the Turtle model and the Road. It was such a confidence booster. Post the peer review we were brainstorming ideas for our solo models. Ms. Riya asked us to brainstorm for our main model and how we want to bring all the ten models together in one model and further sketch our ideas, so that by the next class we can start working on the model. Here is a rough sketchof how i wanted my model to look;

DRAWING (Class – 04)

24.08.18

Todays class started off with ma’am explaining about under line sketching and linear sketching. After a brief introduction about under line sketching we were told to sketch the tiny objects that we got from our place. We were told to sit in groups and create our work stations accordingly. We were also instructed to not shade the sketches and let the perspective lines be in the final sketch.
We were explained to sketch circular objects, symmetrical, asymmetrical objects etc from different angles and positions. As I started to sketch it was a little difficult to sketch the asymmetrical objects but with a little help from Ms. Sonia I was able to sketch.

It was a lot of fun sketching various objects from different angles. I learnt to sketch the symmetrical objects in a way more systematic manner which I’m sure will be very helpful in the future.

The sketches of the objects from the top angle were a little difficult but after a couple of tries I was able to pull it off.

SPACE & MATERIALITY (Class – 04)

23.08.18
The class started with a little discussion about Abstraction, we all gave our inputs about what we feel abstraction is. Post this we discussed our knowledge about abstract art and artists specialising in abstract art.
Then we were instructed to sketch a scene or anything we like and later convert it into abstract art using tracing paper. I sketched an angel sitting under a tree.

After the draft sketch I moved onto the next step and using a tracing paper traced out the sketch but there was a catch, we couldn’ trace it exactly the same using lines but we had to use various shapes and trace it. I used mainly three shapes; triangles, squares and circles.
After I was done tracing I moved onto the last and the final step which was to colour the traced sketch. We were instructed to assign specific colours to specific shapes and aim for a symmetrical abstract art.

This exercise was for us to understand abstractions and have a hands-on experience about how to convert simple sketches into abstract forms. We were lastly informed that we’ll have to convert our grip sketches into abstract using tracing paper in the next class.48EA5DCB-8884-49B4-A493-DA130438997F

INTEGRATIVE SEMINAR & STUDIO (Class – 04)

20.08.18

The seminar class started off with a little recap of what we discussed in the previous class about chapter-1, Metamorphosis. We discussed the key learnings from chapter-1 I.e.,
1. Transformation
2. Alienation of self
3. The realisation of being insignificant
4. Sister brother bonding
5. Trust issues / home + workplace
We then started discussing the Chapter – 2, Metamorphosis. We discussed what we understood in the chapter, the various reactions of the characters towards Gregor, the progress of Gregor adapting to his new self and most importantly his observations. Here are my notes;

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
We also discussed the various symbols from chapter – 2 i.e., painting, food, furniture, gassiness, door (always telling about who is on the other side -motif), fathers uniform etc.
After this we saw a little prevention on the Chicago manual of style. We discussed Citations and Bibliography. Lastly, we were explained a little about how to write citations and bibliography for books, journal etc. I learnt so much about citations and bibliography, the class was so insightful.

As a home assignment, we were asked to write down the citation and bibliography for two books, two journals and two multiple author books. Here is my home assignment:

For our studio class, we continued making our 3D Metaphor models with the file card. We were also told that we have to combine all the 10 models into one model and for the rest of our class we were jotting down ideas of how to combine our models.

IMAGING (Class – 03)

Today we had a little function for Independence Day. Post that we had our imaging class with Mr. Sanjeev.
In today’s class, we were told to choose any one principle from the many principles falling under the Gestalt theory like the law of similarity, the law of proximity, the law of closure etc.
I chose the law of similarity, now we had to depict it using shapes on photoshop.
Lastly, we were told to choose any brands logo and then using pen tool we had to trace the path.

We were told to continue the class assignment at home and get better with the tools.
