Todays seminar class started off with the discussion about the first chapter of Metamorphosis and about Franz Kafka and how the story was a physical representation of his mental state.
We discussed about Franz Kafka’s background history, about his family like his father who was apparently a bullying shopkeeper, we discussed about why he was how he was and how there are chances he was dominating probably because he wanted a stable life for his son. We then discussed about what bullying is, its framework, why it happens like bullying can happen due to various reasons i.e., insecurity, fear, competent, mental instability, emotional instability etc.
We also discussed about his sister and how she was a support in his life, how they bonded and how she genuinely enjoyed Kafka’s literature.
We then discussed the various reasons that could’ve led to Kafka writing a story about a man turning into an insect.
We also discussed about METAPHORS and Symbols (one thing representing another thing, it can be pectoral, sounds etc).
We were then told by Ms. Prarthana to identify the various metaphors used Metamorphosis. Lastly we were told to jot down a couple of metaphors about us and our life.
Lastly we submitted the five picture home assignment (with a little story about them).
- Goodbyes are hard but they are a very important part of growing. It was hard for the mother to accept that her little girl’s all grown up and is walking out of the house to make a life of her own. Though she was upset but being the cool mom that she is she stuck to her routine of annoying her daughter and pulling her leg by saying that she has a better sense of style and posing than her eighteen year old.

- The first shoot. The girl, camera shy yet camera is the only thing she understood. Standing in the middle, being the centre of attention.. lights, camera and there she was posing like she was born for this moment.

- “what is this face that you’re always making” asked the annoyed ‘Dad’, “that’s a pout dad, I’m clicking a selfie” said that selfie addict eighteen year old. The father wasn’t much sure about this new concept of filters, pouts and every second snaps but he still smiled. In a very weird way the father daughter bonded over their different opinions about selfies and posing. Being a ‘Dad’ of two teenage girls… selfies, mood swings and lots ‘n’ lots of drama… well, he signed up for it.

- Bestfriends? more like siblings. Being in public or being in private, we don’t care, nothing would change the amount of embarrassing things we do together, how we don’t need a reason to argue, how we both believe that we’re more photogenic than each other and how we’re always trying to ruin each others pictures. But then at the end of the day every girl needs a guy best friend.
- Last day of this way too filmy school life. All the laughs, the giggles, the jokes, the tears, alarms, snoozes, uniform all of this will be nothing but a memory. Everything’s changing except one… the same people are bonding over the same topic, laughing like its the first time, sitting on their favourite spot but this time it’ll be the last time.
In the studio class we were first explained the significance of the last exercise we did in the seminar class, the one about the metaphors.
We were told to write a little something about ourself (WHO AM I) in about 250 words. My first draft is given below:
When people ask me to tell something about myself, I often get clueless although I’m the only person I know completely.
I’m a fusion of carefree, sweet and happy go lucky. But, people often mistake this carefree nature of mine as being haughty. I love to mind my own thing however if someone interferes in my life I can turn into Satan in no time. Though I love minding my own thing, I’m also somebody who is always ready to help. I don’t hesitate going out of my way to help people if they genuinely need it.
My cheerful and happy go lucky nature has won me, several friends. I’m very moody and if you’re my close pal you know that I have some boundaries and I lose my temper the minute someone crosses them.
I’m a very shy person at first and sometimes people assume that I being rude or throwing attitude but the reality is that I’m too shy to make a conversation.
So, this one time I was attending a workshop and this girl comes up to me and starts a conversation. One minute into the conversation and I start toying with my phone. She obviously assumed that I’m not interested and I’m being rude but the truth is I was getting too awkward and shy.
But once you know me and you’re a part of the inner circle, I’m a totally different person. I’m like a 24*7 entertainment I and don’t keep shut even for a minute.
I’m also quite disciplined. I love keeping my things in place and do not like anybody touching them.
For our studio class we were given 10 minutes to pen down 10 metaphors regarding us and our life. After a good ten minutes of brainstorming we were told to draw three sketches for each metaphor in our sketch book by using different mediums of black i.e., black pen, black ink etc. It was a lot of fun thinking about the various things that relate to us in different ways and further use them as metaphors.
we were instructed to make one 3D model of each metaphor by using file card.
I completed eighteen sketches and after that the flow of my thoughts felt blocked so I decided to make the models of the six metaphors i penned down
Both the seminar class and studio class were extremely helpful and interesting as they helped me a get a better insight about myself in a lot of ways.

clueless but later on we all realised the main purpose of the exercise. The exercise fulfilled its purpose of creatively triggering our minds and getting the creative ideas in motion. Initially we thought that we’ll be judged on the basis of our drawing and sketching but once we realised that the idea was to start the flow of our thoughts, the exercise turned out to be really fun. Im not that good of an impromptu artist or sketcher but here are a few of my pieces from the other day.
