Today’s class was solely dedicated to zine. I continued working on my zine and altered it as per sir’s suggestions.
20.11.18
The class started with sir asking about the progress with our zines. The class was partially about altering our mistakes, making changes and asking doubts. I personally had a little rough time creating my first ever zine but nevertheless, it was also a very interesting and fun experience. We then showed our zine (draft) to Jai Sir so that he could mark this. He was personally satisfied with my zine except for a few alterations here and there. I haven’t finalized my dialogues as of now, so here is my draft without them:

STUDIO
For our studio, my group and I first discussed the layout of our final model and how we wish to go with it. After finalizing the basic idea we went to the workshop and started working on the basic structure of our model. We also asked for suggestions from our workshop teachers and what kind of materials do they think will justify our model the best.

SEMINAR
The class started with Ms. Prarthana asking about our progress with the ‘Artist Statement’ and ‘the Bombay Essay’. Ma’am individually sat down and discussed our progress and addressed our doubts and queries. This helped us understand our work better and gave us a chance to make the necessary changes. We also got a better idea about how we are supposed to execute our artist statements. The discussion that we had as a group nourished my knowledge about the city and helped me see the city through a variety of perspectives.
Lastly, we were reminded about the deadline!
BOMBAY ESSAY (Draft – 01)
Pali Market
Integrative Seminar
Mumbai
Mumbai is a city of dreams. It is a city that never stops, a city that embraces you and makes you feel at home like no other.
Mumbai, being India’s most populated city is a maze of overcrowded roads, streets and bylanes. It is a potpourri of various cultures, languages and art. It is India’s financial powerhouse, fashion epicentre and a pulse point of religious tension.
To balance the needs of the growing population, the city has a wide area of several small neighborhood markets. Crawford market, Fashion-street, Matunga market and Lokhandwala are some of the prominent markets in Mumbai. One such market is Pali Market located in Bandra. Despite the overcrowded streets and traffic, outdoor bazaars top the list of attractions.
Pali Market is a busy street shopping area including a flea market in some parts. While in the daytime it is full of vegetables and fruits vendors, it transforms itself into a bustling bazaar in the evening. One can find a wide range of variety in clothes, jewellery, accessories, shoes and almost everything you need at affordable prices. Sometimes, some of the best ‘copies’ of renowned brands are available in the street stalls. You better be ready to haggle on prices as some good negotiations can fetch you some good deals!
The city is full of aspirants and hard working people and hence it has own charm and glory. Also, it is the centre of India’s one of the most celebrated industries, i.e., Bollywood.
Mumbai offers a wide variety of sightseeing locations, recreational places such as restaurants, theatres, etc., nightlife and many more. Marine Drive and Juhu Beach are two of the many famous examples of sightseeing in Mumbai.
People in Mumbai live a busy yet very light-minded life. The city is quite an enjoyable one and can alter your personality in no time.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT (Draft – 01)
Five senses refer to the five traditionally recognized methods of perception or sense: taste, sight, touch, smell and sound.
The model is our way of showcasing Pali Market and the various senses involved. I was assigned ‘Sound’. Pali market just like any other market has a variety of sounds and noises partially because of all the commotion taking place.
Pali market is all about the commotion that takes place there and in order to represent that it was very important to make sure that various sounds and noises that are present there are represented properly.
The pyramid shape of the model showcases the independent nature of the market. Windows are the eyes of a building. The pyramid has a couple of windows supporting it, these windows are the various sights that one witnesses when in Pali.
STUDIO
For our Studio class, we were working on our Studio model and expressing our vision of Pali Market. Discussions, arguments, agreements and disagreements, all this helped us as a group to understand and get a better perspective about the basic idea and how we should execute it. We managed to create the basic structure of our model.
Here is how our model looks so far;

19.10.18
We continued working on our characters. I personally was busy improvising my characters according to ma’am’s suggestions.
After I was done finalising the looks of my characters, I went ahead and got them approved. Once ma’am approved them I started rendering them one by one.
It was a lot of fun exploring different mediums to render the characters. I enjoyed the most exploring pencil colours, line drawing and alcohol markers. Although, I’ve to figure out which one will I go ahead with.

SEMINAR
The Seminar class was all about peer review, we were supposed to review the essay we wrote in the last class about our city/hometown.
ESSAY ON MY HOMETOWN, DELHI
DELHI BELLY
Delhi the capital of India, has an incredible variety of culinary delights ranging from masala dosa to momos. Delhi’s street food is famous all over India not just for its finger licking taste but also for its insane amount of variety. Rogan josh from the north to Dosa sambar from the south, from sarso da saag to dumplings from the east, name anything and the streets in Delhi will have it for you.
Eating out on the streets in Delhi is not just a culinary experience – it’s a mixture of crash courses in history, anthropology and sociology all rolled into one, with a close up look at the incredible diversity of people who make up our national capital. It’s not just street food, there is so much of history and culture attached to the food. Delhi is the city of historical landmarks and all of them have left the taste of their food behind. The essence of these historically reclaimed dishes is very much kept alive.
A lot of food courts in malls have attempted to bring together the highlights of Delhi’s street food. But in order to get the real taste, one needs to travel. And to make the travel easy the newest landmark of Delhi, the Metro is undoubtedly the best and the easiest way to do the rounds of Both the old and New Delhi. If you want something tangy like bhallas or paranthas, head to Galli Parathe wali, want something more meaty, head for ousted Moinuddin in Chawri bazar close to the house of the great Urdu poet, Mirza Ghalib. The streets in Delhi never disappoint.
But despite the incredible variety of culinary delights, Delhi’s roadside eateries face the heat of competition from upstair rivals. But this won’t stop a visitor to get done with Delhi without having done the street food rounds and hogging the best food.
The class kicked off with Ms. Prarthana making groups of three and we were to review each others work on the basis of four criterias:
The peer review was very helpful as it helped me see my work from various perspectives and take a note of various point of views. Also, I learnt to accept peoples point of views. I also got to learn about various new things about various cities and understand what makes each one of them so unique and special.
Today’s Seminar class was indeed very helpful and fun.
STUDIO
The Studio class started off with Ms Riya reviewing our progress and what we learnt about our assigned places as a group.
She individually called out groups and asked about their progress. As half of my group including me were absent in the last class, so we were not sure about the assignment which was about Senses i.e., sound, view, smell, touch and taste, we were told carefully feel the environment of our assigned place and further portray on paper. Each one of the five groupmates was assigned a sense.

We were also briefed about the final project, we are supposed to create 12 by 12 inches model and show Pali Market in a way that when we present it we don’t have to name the place, the place speaks for itself in all spheres be it sound, view or smell.
We then asked ma’am to permit us to go to Pali Market as we couldn’t go in the last class and so in order to do the assignment we need to visit the site.
12.10.18
Today’s class was all about character development. We were all told to come up with our final storyline so that we can start working on our characters in today’s class.
The class kicked off with a discussion about what all makes a character? Few of the points that we jotted down were; traits, emotions, looks, attire, personality, body type, gender, age, vibe etc. Ma’am then told us the steps we need to follow while designing a character. The steps were as follow:
We then learnt about different styles and how to execute them. We were then told what our today’s class assignment is, we were supposed to first identify our characters, then sketch the character from all angles.
My two main characters are Sports car and Traffic light. I’ve one more character which is a side character, Taxi (kali peeli). It was a lot of fun sketching them, ma’am helped me improvise and gave me a lot of inputs on how can I improve them.
Today’s class was all about learning the basic tools of illustrator especially the pen too. We explored the tool by tracing logos and various kind of shapes, some complicated, some simple. While tracing we also explored various other tools in illustrator. I traced the Nike logo. I had so much fun exploring the tools and trying them. We were then told to read about the Gestalt Law. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next class and I can’t wait to learn more about the software.
11.10.18
For the first half, we converted our listed down actions into sketches. We then showed them to ma’am, took her suggestions, improvised accordingly and finally got them approved by ma’am. We were told the difference between the first and the second project i.e., the focus of the first object was on one part of our body, the hand whereas the focus of the second project was on the entire body, the point of touch between two individuals (can be any part of the body).
In the second we were instructed to click pictures and show the actions we’ve listed down, We were also told to focus on the point of contact while clicking the pictures. Post that my partner and I, we were brainstorming about how we want our wearables and shortlisting actions.
27.09.18
We had all brought our hand grip models for the review. In the first half of the class, we assembled and finalised our models. We then displayed our work, my work included Three Material Boards, Sketch Book, Documentation, Prototypes and Final Hand Grip Model.
I then presented my work, showed ma’am the documentation and explained her the process of making the final hand grip model, the difficulties faced etc.
She evaluated us on our presentation.
